Chobham still has the feel of an old Surrey village, with a proper high street, big gardens set back from the road and the Common right on the doorstep of half the properties here. That last part matters more than people realise when it comes to tree work, because a lot of what grows in Chobham’s gardens is sitting in the same thin, sandy soil as the heath itself and that soil behaves very differently to the heavier clay you get a few miles down the road in Woking or Camberley. We’re TW Tree Stumps Removal, based just a short drive from Camberley and we regularly work in Chobham. We provide tree surgery, tree felling, stump removal, stump grinding and hedge cutting for homes, estates and businesses in and around the village. Calling a local team makes sense because we already understand the area and how it affects trees before we even see yours.
Sandy soil drains quickly and doesn’t hold roots like clay so Scots pine and silver birch often have shallower roots near the Common. After a wet winter, those trees are more likely to fall in storms. That’s why we check for Tree Preservation Orders early. Most of Chobham, especially near the village centre and the Common, is in a conservation area and some trees are protected. A few things we check before work starts:
Working on a protected tree without Surrey Heath Borough Council’s consent can lead to a serious fine, so we check before quoting. If you’re not sure, just tell us and we’ll check.

Pruning, crown reduction, and dead-wooding to maintain the health of established trees, especially the older oaks and beeches around the village centre.
Storm damage is the big one near the Common. Shallow-rooted pines and birches don’t need much of a push once the ground’s saturated. We plan every felling job carefully around whatever’s nearby.
Most stumps are ground out below ground level so the spot’s usable again straight away. See our guide on what to do after tree stump removal for what comes next.
Leylandii in particular gets away from people fast on Chobham’s bigger, older plots. Our hedge cutting service covers rescue jobs and ongoing maintenance.
Scrub, brambles and old stumps cleared from overgrown plots or renovation sites, left level and ready for what’s next.
Boundary clearance, grounds upkeep and tree safety checks for the larger rural properties and equestrian plots around the village.
Not every local tree company is prepared for Chobham’s older, taller trees or the permissions that can come with working near the Common. Before you hire, check a few things:
Chobham is in our usual coverage area, from Woking to Bagshot, including Windlesham, Sunningdale and Lightwater. If you are nearby and not sure whether we cover you, just get in touch and we’ll let you know.
Only if your specific tree falls under a TPO or your property sits inside the conservation area boundary. Plenty of gardens near the Common have no restrictions at all. It comes down to the individual tree, not the general area.
It affects how we work more than whether the job’s allowed. We plan around a footpath so it stays usable while work’s in progress.
Removal’s included as standard. If you’d rather keep logs for firewood or grindings for mulch, just say so and we’ll leave what you want.
Both. A good share of our Chobham work is on bigger properties with paddocks or woodland edges, not just typical garden-sized jobs.
Not at all. Tell us you’re unsure and we’ll check it as part of putting the quote together, before anything’s booked in.
